A nightmare from move-in to move-out

The unit I received showed clear signs of poor maintenance, including visible moisture issues in the bathroom, paint stains throughout the apartment, and grease on the kitchen outlets. Even without being an expert, it was obvious something was wrong, which raises serious concerns about whether these units are properly inspected before being rented.

clearly did not match what was visible. When I said I would hire an independent company to inspect for mold, I was strongly discouraged from doing so and was told it wasn’t necessary, including comments suggesting those companies “always say it’s mold.” I was then quickly offered a transfer to another unit.
At move-out, I was told there were “stains” on the carpet and was instructed to either contact the company I had already hired to clean it again, or they would handle it themselves and charge me for the full carpet cleaning. The marks in question appeared to be normal footprint traffic, and I pushed back on this.
The most concerning issue was the handling of my security deposit. Despite having no deductions, I had to wait 48 days to receive my deposit. I was told a check had been issued, but no mailing date, delivery method, or tracking information was ever provided despite multiple requests. That check was later voided, and a new one had to be issued.
This delay occurred after I disputed the carpet charges, and no documentation was ever provided for the original check.
The timing and lack of transparency around this process raise serious concerns about how situations like this are handled.
Considering the price of these apartments, the overall condition, moisture-related issues, and management practices make it simply not worth the risk.
