I lived there for nearly 6 years, I had a mouse in the apartment and twice had a bedroom full of ants (hundreds). They provided a ant trap to resolve that issue. Don't even get me started about the number of creepy crawlers I had across my carpet. I had mold in a closet that stretched a full 3 feet. Took 4 years to fix that issue. to dispose of it yourself through the method of your choice. This makes moving out problematic.
As to your $500 security deposit. They use that to account for normal wear and tear in the apartment. They expect you to make the apartment look like it has not been lived in. I was charged $40 to replace the drip pans on my stove! I got less than $200 back from the total.
All I can say is renter beware.
