Renters Reviews and Ratings
A genuine, small town community feel.
June 13, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comI’ve really enjoyed living at Spinning Mill Lofts in Skowhegan. The renovation is absolutely lovely and does a wonderful job of honoring the historic mill while giving residents a modern, comfortable place to live. From day one, everyone here has been so friendly and welcoming, from the staff to the neighbors, which has made the building feel more like a home than just an apartment. Living here has given me a real sense of community and has helped me feel connected to Skowhegan in a way I truly ...appreciate. I’m grateful to be part of this building and this town, and I would happily recommend Spinning Mill Lofts to anyone looking for a beautiful place to live with a genuine small-town community feel.Read More
Great place to live!
May 15, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comI had to move because of work but I really enjoyed living here. It is a beautiful old commercial building that was converted into apartment units. A ton of charm and located on an island in central Maine!
Love our Apartment
May 5, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comThis has been a great place to live. The apartment is beautiful, spacious, and well cared for, and all maintenance requests have been handled. The community feels safe and welcoming, and the staff has always been kind and professional. The location is another big plus—close to walking paths/park/downtown, dining, and everyday essentials. Like most apartments, there can be some normal day-to-day noise from neighbors, but it hasn’t been disruptive. We’re very happy here.
Spinning Mill Apartments deliver on modernized housing need
May 5, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comThe newly renovated Spinning Mill apartments are breathing new life into housing spaces along the Kennebec River while also offering a community atmosphere. These spacious, modern units are not only filled with natural light, but they are a blank canvas for inspired home decor. Neighbors are friendly, respectful, and multigenerational. With live entertainment, a beautifully appointed Biergarten restaurant downstairs, and just enough tenants, you will feel like you’ve gained a whole new ...community. True, sound insulation and craftsmanship could have been higher end, but the improvement made to this once dilapidated building in rural Somerset County is an asset to a community with an affordable housing shortage. For residents, it fulfills a very human need to “look out,” with a birds eye view of the mighty Kennebec River. New management is attentive, engaged, and motivated to build community in this space.Read More
Love How This Turned Out
May 5, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comThe Spinning Mill is such a cool spot! Construction is finally done and everything looks awesome. Love the coworking space and having a restaurant right onsite!
Beautiful new apartments in Skowhegan
May 5, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comI've lived here for about 8 months, and it's been a great spot to live! Apartments are all new and beautifully designed, with the building in a unique and central location and great amenities around it. Short walk across the river to the downtown, an amazing restaurant and bar on the first floor with lots of fun events (and a beautiful outdoor space), and a good community of people to live around. Pros: beautiful apartments, great appliances, centrally located (on an island in the Kennebec!), ...HUGE windows, & good rates Cons: not many- soundproofing is not perfect (a reality of community living), and the rooftop deck is still under progress. Improvements seem to be made every day to the spaces we use in the building, and I've talked with management about the couple minor concerns- they are responsive and I'm confident they'll continue to make this building both a great place to live and a community hub in Skowhegan!!Read More
Beautiful concept, execution HIGHLY disappointing!!!
March 6, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comSpinning Mill Lofts is a visually striking restoration with strong architectural appeal. The concept is excellent, but the day-to-day experience has not matched the presentation. Construction described as temporary at move-in extended far beyond projected timelines. Work expected to be substantially complete by September only recently entered final punch list stages, affecting amenity access, building functionality, and overall stability. A monthly amenity fee is charged, yet multiple advertised ...amenities have been unavailable or altered for much of the tenancy, including the roof deck, screening room, art studio, and portions of the coworking space. The coworking area was reduced to accommodate event space without prior notice. The amenity fee has remained unchanged. Utility billing has shifted. Although leases reference submetering, residents were later presented with flat-rate proposals and interim adjustments, creating uncertainty about long-term structure. Noise is a significant concern. Hotel and restaurant operations generate frequent late-night sound that carries into units. On-site events are often held without notice, increasing noise and disrupting parking. Sound transmission between units is substantial; conversations and routine activity are clearly audible. Security and access have been inconsistent. Door codes have been widely shared, locks changed without notice, and nonresidents have accessed residential areas. After-hours disturbances have occurred, and emergency communication lacks clarity. Maintenance responsiveness has varied. Tickets have been closed without explanation; snow removal delayed; trash overflowed; grounds upkeep minimal if at all. For several months there was no onsite maintenance person. Management communication is frequently delayed, absent, or dismissive. For nine months residents have been told management is “on a learning curve,” despite this reportedly being their fourth or fifth similar project. Residents are often told matters require a “team meeting” or are “being worked on,” yet little changes. The building has visual appeal and potential, but prospective tenants should ask detailed questions about construction timelines, amenity delivery, soundproofing, event scheduling, security protocols, and utility billing before signing. There has already been noticeable tenant turnover, with other tenants indicating they are actively looking for other housing options. My advice, keep looking.Read MoreProperty Manager Responded
April 20, 2026Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re glad you recognize the vision behind the property, though we’re sorry your experience hasn’t met expectations. As we’ve transitioned from construction to full operations, there have been ongoing adjustments across amenities, communication, and building systems. We understand the impact this has had and continue working to improve consistency across the resident experience. We appreciate you sharing your perspective and wish you the best moving forward. Do not live here. Miserable.
February 20, 2026 - Review from Apartments.comIf you can at all avoid it, absolutely do not live here. It has been the single biggest mistake I have ever made. The units are visually appealing, which I understand makes these units desirable. However: this building is managed EXTREMELY poorly. No sound dampening efforts were made at all in the construction of this building, to the point I can clearly hear every step, every conversation, every sneeze of my neighbors. The first floor of this building is a shared hotel and restaurant space. ...Again, no noise dampening whatsoever between these spaces and the residential spaces. The restaurant often has live music, which can be heard loudly and clearly on the residential floors. If you are unfortunate enough to live on the second floor, you will experience this to the extremes. In addition, the hotels directly below the residential spaces, especially on the 2nd floor, make living here truly unbearable. Management is nearly impossible to get in contact with. If you do get in contact with them, they simply do not care about any concerns whatsoever. Being a new construction that cut lots of corners, there are a variety of issues tenants have with doors being installed incorrectly, kitchens having unfinished aspects, paint all over the floors, paint chipping and falling from ceilings, gaps between the floors and walls, allowing for bugs and more noise, etc. None of these issues have been addressed in a timely manner. Again, if you can at all avoid it, live somewhere else. You will absolutely regret signing a lease here.Read MoreProperty Manager Responded
April 20, 2026Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience, as this is not the standard we aim to provide. As a mixed-use, historic building, some sound transfer can occur, and we understand how important comfort and timely communication are. Your concerns are taken seriously as we continue to improve both operations and the resident experience. We appreciate your feedback and wish you the best moving forward. Aesthetics are NOT everything
December 25, 2025 - Review from Apartments.comWhen it comes to feeling secure and safe in a home, it takes a lot more than optics. Prospective renters should research this type of situation well before renting.Property Manager Responded
April 20, 2026Thank you for your feedback. We understand that feeling safe and secure in your home is essential. Our building has controlled access with locked entry points, and we take security seriously while continuing to look for ways to improve. Attractive apartments, but noise, incomplete amenities, and operational issues.
December 18, 2025 - Review from Apartments.comPros: Attractive apartments with high-end appliances and strong visual appeal. Cons: The property does not deliver what is advertised, especially considering the cost. Key Issues: Construction & Noise: Poor insulation, visible construction shortcuts, and no soundproofing result in significant noise from neighbors and common areas. Amenities & Fees: Many advertised amenities are unavailable or unfinished but full fees are charged. Management & Security: Management and maintenance support are ...limited, with inconsistent communication and response times. Security and access control are also concerns due to frequent non-resident foot traffic and shared access points. Parking: Parking can be difficult, especially during on-site events, and residents are not notified in advance. Bottom Line: While the apartments are visually appealing, incomplete amenities, noise issues, limited communication, and security concerns make it hard to justify the price. Improved management and follow-through could enhance the experience, but the property currently falls short.Read MoreProperty Manager Responded

Terrible management
December 9, 2025 - Review from Apartments.comI would advise against renting here. The building has zero insulation so you can hear every word from the upstairs and down stairs neighbors. Management also doesn’t respond to tenant issues.Property Manager Responded
