Located in the heart of downtown Austin on Congress and 11th, the Texas State Capitol Building is the fourth building of its kind to serve capitol building for the Lone Star State. Built by Elijah E. Myers in 1882-1888 this building is still standing strong after 120 years. Before the additional underground extension was added, in 1986 the Texas State Capitol was made a historical landmark and is a huge point of interest to Austin's tourists as well as Austin's residents who just wish to get out of their apartments and see something inspiring and full of history. A $98 Million dollar restoration took place in 1995 to help retain this buildings beauty. Noted as one of the structures with the highest point in Austin, the Texas State Capitol is that it is the largest Capitol Building in the nation, other than the US Capitol.
