Located in the heart of downtown Austin on Congress and 11th, the Texas State Capitol Building is the fourth building of its kind to serve capitol building for the Lone Star State. Taking a tour around this historic landmark, you may run into any number of Texas politicians and lobbyists at the Texas Legislation system including the Governor who offices at the Capitol. Built by Elijah E. Myers in 1882-1888 this building is still standing strong after 120 years. A $75 million underground extension was added in 1993, expanding the size of the Capitol to fit the growing needs of the Texas Government and nearly doubling it's functioning area. Before the additional underground extension was added, in 1986 the Texas State Capitol was made a historical landmark and is a huge point of interest to Austin's tourists as well as Austin's residents who just wish to get out of their apartments and see something inspiring and full of history. A $98 Million dollar restoration took place in 1995 to help retain this buildings beauty.
