There's a tired cliché going around that all fellow Apartment-ites must collectively rise as one to battle - the false rumor that we are a tad, well, uncivilized. Sure, you might host that weekly poker game where Lonestar and pretzels serve as the evening's entrées, and that last Halloween party did get a bit wild, what with the naughty cheerleaders and all, but there's nothing like a trip to the Apple Bar to set the record straight with the naysayers. Specializing in more martini's than the James Bond box set, the Apple Bar is definitely a laid back, classy affair. T-shirts and cargo shorts are definitely out, collared shirts and casual slacks are most certainly in, and you are more apt to find the latest episode of Nip/Tuck playing on the plasma screen than the U.T. home game. DJ's spin on the weekends, but at Apple Bar it's more about being seen than heard, and turntable maestros generally act as background ambiance rather than volume-pulsing headliners. Apple martinis are, of course, the signature drink, although a top shelf assortment of bourbons are available for the non-fruity among us. Thick sofas dot the darkened layout, making the establishment a classy post-date spot to get a little closer to that special someone. And, this being Austin, live music-themed art usually dominates the brick walls. So the next time you yearn for a taste of the high life minus the Miller, get out of your Austin apartment and give the Apple Bar a spin.
