What is the history of Cathedral City?
The Cahuilla Indians were the first inhabitants of the Coachella Valley and the Agua Caliente band of Cahuilla Indians established its reservation in the area. The reservation encompasses about one-quarter of the city. In 1850, Col. Henry Washington of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recorded the name Cathedral Canyon because its canyons resemble the inside of a great cathedral. When the first subdivision was built in 1925, it was named Cathedral City.

Colleges serving the area include the University of California Riverside - Palm Desert Campus, California State University San Bernardino - Palm Desert Campus and the College of the Desert.

Los Angeles, a little less than two hours north of Cathedral City, is another good location for a city vacation. Catalina Island, 22 miles off the coast of Southern California, provides a resort experience. Las Vegas, Nevada is about four hours away.
