A walk at Waterfront Park along the Charleston Harbor entry and coastline is a great get away for Charleston apartment-ites. The park covers over 1,000 feet along the harbor, and allows beautiful views of the sea and sky along with sailboats dotting the water and huge ships coming in and heading out. The wide walkways provide room for walking, skating or roller blading, or even bicycling. The total space of the park is eight linear acres. Along the pathway, there are plenty of old-fashioned benches where you can read a book, enjoy lunch, or do some serious people watching. Big wooden swing sets are posted here and there for fun for adults and children alike. The two huge water fountains provide respite from the heat for anyone who's daring enough to play in them with their clothes on. The fountains are also lit at night for a silvery reflection of light. In addition, pretty "gas lamps" (that are actually electric, but they look like those from the old times) line the walkway and provide a soft glow for an after dinner walk or an after work jog. The park is located along Concord Street, which is near the Market, shopping and various Charleston historic sites. It makes a great destination when you go to the city from your Charleston apartment for soaking up the value of the southern hospitality. Waterfront park is considered "this generation's gift to the future" by Charleston Mayor Riley, and it is indeed a well kept, lovely place to go to get some fresh air. Another fun idea for Charleston apartment-ites would be to gather a group of family and or friends and have a picnic at one of the large wooden picnic tables on the green space at the park. The ocean, loved ones and great food - what more could Charleston apartment-ites ask for?
