Chic yet comfortable, at Tristan, Charleston apartment-ites can find comfort food in a classy, almost exotic atmosphere, because of what happens with the classic dishes. Distinctive ingredients are the key to this mix. While some of them, such as farm fresh berries may come from as close as John's Island, others may come from more foreign locations. This beautiful restaurant with white table cloths and fine mood lighting provides smart service and an experience to remember. A full bar and an expansive collection of wines (with servers prepared to recommend the perfect accompaniment for your meal) adds delight to the evening. Tristan is not a cheap meal, with entrees with a $30 plus price tag. Monday through Thursday, however, the restaurant offers a $35 value menu with three courses; a selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts. You may decide between She Crab soup, Fudge Farms pork belly, or winter radish salad for the first course; local grouper, Keegan Fillion chicken or beef flat iron for the second course; and for the third course you may have a cheese plate or crème brulee. Select bottles of wine are also offered at half price on Mondays and Tuesdays. For the particular eater, of course, there is a healthy selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts, including those on the Prix Fixe (value) menu. A few of the notable appetizers are cucumber gazpacho, American caviar and the pork cheek tortellini. Exceptional entrees include the white tuna, duck breast and the Tomahawk rib eye steak. Tristan also serves an exclusive vegetarian menu featuring soups, salads and an extravagant garden select salad. Tristan serves dinner 5:30 pm to 10 pm, Monday through Thursday, and the restaurant is open until 11 pm Friday and Saturday. If you want to get out and about from your Charleston apartment on the weekend, a delicious brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 2:30 pm.
