It's Valentine's Day again, and rather than running around your apartment complex in a Cupid outfit like last year (much to the chagrin of the local authorities), you've decided to instead indulge your two true loves - that special someone in your life, and chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. And when it comes to the latter, few do it better than Margie's Candies. From the old timey black and white photos lining the walls to the hand-sewn needlework that covers much of the remaining hang space, Margie's feels frozen in time. Opening its doors in 1939, the establishment has literally served generations of sweet-toothed fans. Over the years Margie's has cultivated not only a devout group of regulars, but also a number of legendary house specialties. The chocolate, ranging from delectable truffles and English toffee to chocolate covered cherries and bottles of thick fudge, is the obvious draw, although the ice cream creations such as the Eiffel Tower ('four scoops of fresh flavors and paradise') and their World's Largest Sundae (over half a gallon?!) keep frozen treat aficionados coming back for more. The root beer floats also act as instant time machines, transporting one and all back to the soda fountain days of yesteryear. And bookworms take note - bring in your report card with an A and Margie's will give you a cone on the house. So drop that loin cloth and put away those arrows; Margie's is a holiday no-brainer.
