Explore Detroit
Detroit bars and clubs are always a blast, but sometimes the flashing lights, the smokey air and the huge crowds can get on an apartment-ites nerves. That's why it's always important to take a trip to a place that's more traditional, more homey, with a more relaxing feel and natural ambiance. For a break from the everyday rush and excitement of club and bar life, take a drive down to Jacoby's German Biergarten, one of the oldest saloons and restaurants in Detroit, and one of the top spots for relaxing with a frosty glass of beer and a plate of delicious grub. You can't very well call yourself a biergarten if you don't have many beers on tap, and there are a number of delicious flavors, whether German or otherwise, to take in. Favorite such as Spaten Optimator and Spaten Maibock are present, along with Franziskaner Weissbier and Jacoby's own Dunkel and Lager. They also have other, more traditional varieties, such as Guiness, Stella Artois, and Newcastle, as well a seasonal selection of Bell's. If you're looking for an even wider selection of German beers, they have just what you need with nearly twenty different varieties of brews from the Rhineland. One thing pushing them above and beyond the normal bars is their delicious selection of eatables. They specialize in German cuisine, and serve some of the best in the city, including wiener schnitzel, jager schnitzel, or rahm schnitzel, as well as Koenisberger Klopps, meatballs on a bed of spatzle in a lemon beurre blanc, Kassler Ripchen, pork chops, served on sauerkraut, and topped with baked apples, or their German sausage dinner, where you pick out two of your favorite sausages, knackwurst, bratwurst or wiesswurst , and get them served with sauerkraut and a potato pancake. If you're looking for something a bit more American, they have a gigantic, juicy rib-eye, burgers, and plenty of sandwich and salad options. For real German flavor, apartment-ites are not going to find better taste, better selection, and better variety than they have at Jacoby's German Beirgarten, the place in Detroit for a delicious lunch, a cold brew, and a low-key escape from the high-energy of the motor city's nightlife.
