Fresno Overview
Rental homes in Fresno are the perfect choice for anyone who wants to be centrally located in California. Centrally located in the state, this San Joaquin Valley city is only two to three hours from Sacramento, the Bay Area, or Los Angeles. Some of California's most beautiful natural scenery is easily accessible from Fresno. Residents enjoy four distinct seasons with hot summers and mild winters. Here's a closer look at some of the reasons you should think about renting in Fresno.
What is the history of Fresno?
Fresno was first permanently settled in the wake of the California Gold Rush. It became a railway station for the Central Pacific Railroad in 1872 and was later incorporated as a town in 1885. Large-scale agricultural production was the main driver of the local economy in the city's early days. Much of the surrounding farmland has been taken over by urban development since World War II. BankAmericard, the world's first successful credit card, was started in Fresno in 1958. The company is better known today as Visa. In 1960, Fresno joined the list of the top 100 most populous cities in the US and has remained there ever since.

Fresno enjoys a very warm or hot climate throughout most of the year. Temperatures climb into the 90s or higher starting in May and remain there through October. Spring and fall tend to be shorter seasons here. The winters are fairly mild with most days having highs in the 40s. Lows do dip down below freezing some nights in December and January. Fresno also has a very dry climate. There is almost no rainfall between the months of June and September. Most rainfall occurs during the winter when the city averages around 2 inches of rain per month. The hot and arid climate in the Fresno area means there is an average of 303 frost-free growing season days throughout the year.
How do I get around town?
Fresno has one of the shortest commute times of any major city in California. Workers spend an average of less than 21 minutes getting to and from work, which is very desirable when compared to traffic in the Bay Area or Los Angeles. State Highway 41 is the major north-south route through Fresno and State Highway 180 is the main east-west thruway. State Highway 99 is a bypass route on the western edge of the city, which connects Fresno to Modesta and Bakersfield. Fresno Area Express (FAX) is the city's public bus service. Passenger train service is provided by Amtrak San Joaquins. The main airport is Fresno Yosemite International Airport, which serves more than 1.3 million passengers annually.
