Fresno Overview

Rental homes in Fresno are the perfect choice for anyone who wants to be centrally located in California. Centrally located in the state, this San Joaquin Valley city is only two to three hours from Sacramento, the Bay Area, or Los Angeles. Some of California's most beautiful natural scenery is easily accessible from Fresno. Residents enjoy four distinct seasons with hot summers and mild winters. Here's a closer look at some of the reasons you should think about renting in Fresno.

What is the history of Fresno?

Fresno was first permanently settled in the wake of the California Gold Rush. It became a railway station for the Central Pacific Railroad in 1872 and was later incorporated as a town in 1885. Large-scale agricultural production was the main driver of the local economy in the city's early days. Much of the surrounding farmland has been taken over by urban development since World War II. BankAmericard, the world's first successful credit card, was started in Fresno in 1958. The company is better known today as Visa. In 1960, Fresno joined the list of the top 100 most populous cities in the US and has remained there ever since.

How is the weather in Fresno?

Fresno enjoys a very warm or hot climate throughout most of the year. Temperatures climb into the 90s or higher starting in May and remain there through October. Spring and fall tend to be shorter seasons here. The winters are fairly mild with most days having highs in the 40s. Lows do dip down below freezing some nights in December and January. Fresno also has a very dry climate. There is almost no rainfall between the months of June and September. Most rainfall occurs during the winter when the city averages around 2 inches of rain per month. The hot and arid climate in the Fresno area means there is an average of 303 frost-free growing season days throughout the year.

How do I get around town?

Fresno has one of the shortest commute times of any major city in California. Workers spend an average of less than 21 minutes getting to and from work, which is very desirable when compared to traffic in the Bay Area or Los Angeles. State Highway 41 is the major north-south route through Fresno and State Highway 180 is the main east-west thruway. State Highway 99 is a bypass route on the western edge of the city, which connects Fresno to Modesta and Bakersfield. Fresno Area Express (FAX) is the city's public bus service. Passenger train service is provided by Amtrak San Joaquins. The main airport is Fresno Yosemite International Airport, which serves more than 1.3 million passengers annually. A smaller regional airport located here is the Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.

Why live in Fresno, CA?

Fresno offers both big-city amenities and small-town charm. Rental homes in Fresno are among the most affordable in all of California. With it still being in an agricultural area, fresh produce is available year-round. Farm-to-table dining is extremely popular, and the city has an amazing restaurant scene. Arts and culture are abundant in Fresno and the city is home to popular college and minor league sports teams. Fresno is even considered one of the easiest big cities in California to drive in, due to lower traffic flow and shorter commutes for workers. This city offers something for everyone and is a great place to start and raise a family.

What Fresno landmarks should I see?

The Foresteire Underground Gardens is a one-of-a-kind landmark that can't be found anywhere but in Fresno. A Sicilian immigrant spent 40 years building these subterranean gardens as a way to escape the summer heat in Fresno. Some of the underground plants and trees there are more than 90 years old. Another landmark in the city is the Fresno Chafee Zoo, a 40-acre zoo that is home to more than 190 species of animals. The Fresno Water Tower is another historic landmark. Built in 1894, it once served as a source of water for the city's fire department, but today is used as Fresno's visitor center.

What is there to do around Fresno?

Drive just five minutes outside the city limits during the summer and you will find abundant fruit stands filled with fresh produce during the growing season. Yosemite National Park is less than an hour north of Fresno, Kings Canyon National Park is to the east, and Sequoia National Park is to the south. The Fresno State University Bulldogs' football and baseball teams are both very popular, as is the minor league Fresno Grizzlies baseball team. The Fresno Monsters ice hockey team plays at Selland Arena. The Fresno Fuego FC soccer team's home field is at the university.

Where is the best place to move in Fresno?

If you're looking for rental homes in Fresno, there are several great neighborhoods to start your search. Woodward Park is in the northern part of the city. It has a more rural feel to it. The neighborhood is named after a massive and very popular Fresno city park. Sunnyside is a beautiful suburban neighborhood in the southeast part of Fresno. It's considered great for retirees and families, with many new developments. The Tower District in Downtown Fresno is a great choice for younger people looking for a great nightlife scene. Clovis is a suburban city on the east side of Fresno that is considered a very family-friendly community.
