It's practically a crime to be living in the great state of Texas and unable to properly prepare Tex-Mex cuisine. But judging from the look your roommate is giving you (not to mention that burning smell permeating your apartment kitchen), it seems as though you could use a little help in the department. Lucky for you, Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen is moments away. In addition to being a top-notch restaurant (their title dish is an obvious fave, although fajitas, appetizers and even Mexican cakes round out the menu), Sylvia's really shines due to their weekend in-house cooking classes. Where else can one learn the secret to an award-winning Tamale, a hangover-curing Menudo Soup (!), or meatless Border Enchiladas? Most classes are held on Saturday afternoons, and while the environment is casual the fanbase is rabid, so call ahead to reserve your spot. Owner Sylvia Casares herself teaches most of the classes, so you can be sure your culinary insight is coming direct from the source, and class fees are low enough not to break the bank. Just think of it as an investment in roommate relations.
