There are plenty of bars, clubs and pubs to take in along the beaches of Jacksonville, but for those apartment-ites trying to find an authentic neighborhood in the midst of pumping dance clubs, upscale lounges and tiki bars, you have a more difficult task. One spot you must check out, however, is Pete's Bar in Neptune Beach. It may have the fancy amenities or beer selection of some of the more hoity toity bars in town, it more than makes for it in rustic charm. If you're looking for a bar where everyone can know your name, then step right up to Pete's. When you walk into the bar, you feel like you're walking into a piece of history. The walls are lined with autographed pictures from figures as varied as Fidel Castro, Bear Bryant and Ernest Hemingway, and the entire bar just oozes out the style and flavor of a bar that your grandparents would go to back in their day. It may not have the new flavor of many bars along the beach, but its obvious within a few minutes why so many people make this a must-see on any trip to the area. It also doesn't help that the drinks are affordable, the crowd is always friendly, and there are plenty of things to keep you occupied. If you're tired of all the glitz and glamour of many of the bars around the beach, take a trip to older days at Pete's Bar. Apartment-ites can grab a drink and meet some of the most interesting folks in Jacksonville at this hot spot, as well as visitors from all around the world who heard tell of this fantastic little hidden gem.
