You're in for a treat when you get down to the French Quarter and vist Arnaud's Restaurant, famed for its award-winning creole cuisine, excellent staff and 80 year history. The atmosphere here is lush and lively, and be prepared to drop a Ben Franklin, and see him smile. It makes my mouth water just to tell you about the fabulous appetizers of Crabmeat Prentiss - Gulf crab in a delicate cheese sauce, the yummy escargots with a pastry top, and one to try - the aligator sausage. And my do they have oysters. Five different baked varieties and the chilled, on the half shell version. Oysters Arnaud was created when celebrity guest Bette Midler requested a plate with all five varieties on it, and since then it has been listed on the menu, a most popular item. The chef will now make made to order menu items when requested. Bette Midler is not the only celeb to grace Arnaud's, with President George Bush ushered in with secret service men, John Goodman, Kirk Douglas and Harry Connick, Jr. Who knows who you might catch a glimpse of at the restaurant. Shellfish, fish, chicken and red meats are all on the menu, with a variety of salads, soups, and scrumptious desserts. And if you just happen to be in the area for business before heading home to your apartment, make sure you check out the restaurant's bar, dubbed the French 75 Bar. It is so named for the drink by the same name, a heady concoction of brandy and champagne, and provides an incredible selection of martinis and other mixed drinks, wine and beer.
