Phoenix Overview

Phoenix is mainly known for being one of the sunniest cities in the entire world. It has a thriving job market, a bustling downtown and nightlife scene, and all the arts and culture that one would expect in a major metropolitan city. Apartments for rent in Phoenix as well as rental home options are also much more affordable than any found in comparable cities in the United States. Those are some of the reasons why so many people are choosing to make Phoenix their next destination.

What is the history of Phoenix?

The region around Phoenix was occupied by Native American tribes for thousands of years before Westerners arrived. At the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848, Arizona was ceded to the United States as part of the New Mexico Territory. Phoenix was officially founded as a town in 1868. It was given the name "Phoenix" because it was a city that was born from the ruins of a previous civilization. Arizona was admitted as the 48th state in 1912. Ever since then, Phoenix has continued to grow in prominence.

How is the weather in Phoenix?

It's hot! Phoenix has two seasons throughout the year: a short, mild winter and a long, hot summer. It averages 3,872 bright and sunny days every year, making it the sunniest city on earth. From the end of May through late September, the city usually has about 111 days on which the high temperature is above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Snowfall rarely happens during the "winter" months in Phoenix, and it is rare for nighttime lows to even drop below freezing. The mild and pleasant winters are why so many "snowbirds" from northern states like to find homes for rent in Phoenix.

How do I get around town?

Morning rush hour traffic in Phoenix lasts from 6 to 9 a.m. on the weekdays, and from 3 to 6 p.m. in the afternoons. The 4 to 5 p.m. hour is usually the busiest time on city roadways. The average commute time in Phoenix is about 26 minutes, which is the same as the national average. Valley Metro is the name of the public transportation system in Phoenix. It operates an extensive system of bus routes, in addition to light rail and streetcars. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is located just east of the downtown area. Most residents in Phoenix own a car.

What is the Phoenix commute like?

Commuting in Phoenix, AZ, is characterized by expansive road networks and minimal congestion compared to larger cities. The city's grid layout facilitates navigation, and major highways like I-10 and Loop 101 offer efficient travel. While public transportation options exist, the car-centric culture prevails. Weather conditions, including extreme heat, can influence commuting comfort. Overall, Phoenix's well-planned road infrastructure contributes to a relatively smoother commuting experience.

Why live in Phoenix, AZ?

Phoenix really is a wonderful place to live. The fact that the Arizona State Capitol operates here means that the economy stays fairly stable, even during economic downturns. Living in Phoenix rental homes gives a person the opportunity to see whether the city is the right fit for them. People from colder climates may have trouble adjusting to the weather here. It's best to rent a home in Phoenix to see how you handle that first summer before committing to living here long-term. Renting a home also gives you time to check out the different neighborhoods in Phoenix to find the perfect location to settle down.

What Phoenix landmarks should I see?

The Arizona State Capitol and the Arizona Capitol Museum in the Capital Area are two landmarks that are hard to miss in Phoenix. The same goes for St. Mary's Basilica, which is one of the oldest Spanish-style Catholic churches in the city. Chase Field is the home of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, which has now won two World Series titles. Papago Park is a large municipal park in the Papago area of the city, comprised of hilly territory and some interesting caves. It's located close to the entrance to the Phoenix Zoo.

What is there to do around Phoenix?

Several companies offer hot air balloon rides that provide a great way to see Phoenix and the surrounding area from the air. There are also tour companies that offer full-day guided tours of the Grand Canyon. People can also take self-guided tours of the desert around Phoenix by renting ATVs or dune buggies. The Desert Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to see all the various types of desert cactus and plants that are native to the region. The Phoenix Zoo is a great family experience with more than 3,000 animals to see and learn about. The Phoenix Art Museum has a collection of more than 19,000 art and fashion exhibits.

Where is the best place to move in Phoenix?

Most of the places to look for Phoenix rental homes are in neighborhoods located to the north of the downtown area. The price for a three-bedroom home starts at around $1,500-$2,000 a month and can go up from there - varying by area. Neighborhoods to explore and look for rental homes include Alhambra, Northwood Manor, Palmas Royale, and Moon Valley. Neighborhoods that spread out to the east and west of these areas can also be a place to find a good rental home in Phoenix.
