The University of Dallas is a private coed Catholic school established in 1956. Located in the city of Irving, Texas, the University was founded with the help of the Cistercian fathers at Our Lady of Dallas Monastery, and the assistance of the Sisters of Mary Namur. Today the school enrolls 1400 undergraduates, 1500 graduate students and 350 students in the various Braniff liberal arts programs. In order to be admitted to the college as a freshman, the committee that reviews your application will look at: Whether Your SAT score is a 1230 or better (math/verbal combined )OR if your ACT score is at least a 26; class ranking (top 5% is normal), what types of classes you took, the results of your admissions interview, your written essay and recommendations from your teachers and counselors. Selection at the university is VERY selective. The reason for the selectiveness is based in part on the types of classes students will have to take. You will be getting a classical education in every sense of the word. For example, a typical English class in a typical university will require you to read modern and classical authors and maybe you will only read the works of one classical author a semester. At this university, students spend quite some time studying the classical writers like Homer, Virgil, Beowulf, Dante, Shakespeare and Milton to name a few. Students will also take classes in Western and American civilization, studying Jefferson's "A summary View of the Rights of British America" or John Calvin's "Institutes of the Christian Religion." Keep in mind these are core classes. Not your typical university experience. The University is pretty diverse in terms of major areas of study. You can Major in American studies, Math, Biology, Economics, Business or even pre-dentistry. students may also choose to major in Religion, art or psychology. Cost This college has everything. Your flat rate tuition for one year is $23,824. Room and board would be another $9044 a year with $750 dollars for the spring and fall semesters. 96% of the students receive some form of financial aid and average financial aid package is $11,111 a year. Student Housing and Apartments The University states that all full time undergraduates fall under a mandatory residence requirement, which means that If you are under 21 years of age and have less than 90 hours, you must live in one of the dorms. The belief is that living on campus serves a cultural and community building need while contributing to the intellectual and spiritual needs of the individual. For students who meet the requirements to and choose to live off campus, there are a number of great Dallas apartments in the area for a student to choose from. Check out a few of them below...
