Operating since 1869, the Baravon has literally hosted history on its stage; from Mark Twain to Frank Sinatra, from Al Pacino to Patty Smith, performers and artists or all walks of life have at one time or another played the Bardavon. From soul music to dance, from large-production stage plays to intimate spoken word outings, this is one Opera House that has many years to go before the fat lady sings. Perfect for apartment-ites with children, the venue offers a yearly production of the holiday classic 'A Christmas Carol', with numerous other educational and engaging programs presented throughout the year. From the amazing acoustics to the innate sense of history its very walls seem to exude, the Bardavon is truly a local treasure of the Poughkeepsie-area community. The space recently started showing classic 35 mm prints from its film vaults as well, making it an ideal night out of the apartment for families eager to re-discover such timeless classics of the cinema as 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' or 'The Birds'.
