Tuck and Patti, Spyro Gyra and The Detroit Underground are just a few of the hot bands that are playing or have played at Anthology - a trendy live music venue near in downtown San Diego. Situated in Little Italy, it's easy to get to from the Five for residents of San Diego apartments. The variety of musical guests is excellent, from Jazz to R&B and Blues to Rock and Roll. Check out the nightly performances on their website listed here to get an idea of some of the artists. Why, a country western group and a cabaret singer have appeared in the same month! The 1940's style three level location is a perfect fit for the great acoustics on all levels, with 250 seats in the intimate setting for local, national and international musicians. It is an awesome layout with a first level, mezzanine and an upper level. The first level includes a huge bar area, booth seating along the wall, and tables dotted near the stage. Sitting in the mezzanine means cushy booths again. And the upper level is fine to peer over the bar edge, hang out in the general admission section with video monitors, or enjoy the evening air on the outdoor balcony. The bar is open Tuesday through Saturdays in the fall and winter, again, check the website for an updated calendar. To enjoy the complete experience at Anthology, arrive before the show and enjoy the "New American Cuisine" featuring yummy grilled Filet Mignon, Australian duet of lamb, and pan seared sea bass served with Caesar, beet or heirloom salad. Tapioca, cobblers and sorbets round out the menu. Happy hour is Tuesday-Friday 5:30-7:30 pm, with Half-Price Tuesdays offering the dinner and lounge menu and select bottles of wine at that discounted price. A few special Tuesday show dates are exempt, however.
