The beautiful town of Seaside, CA began as just one hotel. The Hotel Del Monte was in East Monterey, and was conceived as the foundation of a  resort community. The community of Seaside was founded by Dr. John Robert, who invested in 160 acres in the area, which he parceled up into 1,000 vacation property lots. In 1910, Seaside became the base of operations for the U.S. Army, which called it Fort Ord. The base housed 20,000 military personnel and civilian workers.

Reception is great, and you’ll be able to tune in to many other radio stations on the “dial.” All the major television networks are available for viewing in Seaside, including PBS. For internet services, you can choose from AT&T, Xfinity and Optimum.

You should certainly take a day visit to see the old Hotel Del Monte. Today, the building serves as the offices of the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites, and is called Hermann Hall. It’s an imposing building with historical significance because it was the first edifice in Seaside, CA. Nearby landmarks to see include the San Carlos Cathedral, in Monterey, CA. This cathedral is the oldest operating parish in the entire state of California. Even if you aren’t a big fan of architecture, the building is very impressive.

What is there to do around Seaside?

The number one leisure activity to do in Seaside, CA is going to the beach. There, you can sunbathe, swim, snorkel and more. Rent a bicycle for the afternoon with your friend or family member. See some theater at the Campus Center Building in Seaside, which is a performing arts center. Play a round of golf at the Bayonet Black Horse Golf Course. Do Yoga on the beach with the Seaside Yoga Sanctuary and enjoy no-judgement Yoga in the great outdoors.

Seaside is a great place to live if you want to attend the annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Held every year at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, this festival attracts thousands of attendees and famous names from the jazz music scene. In October, hang loose with the Monterey Beer Festival, where you can taste the beers of local breweries in a fun and festive atmosphere. Head to Gilroy for the annual Halloween Beer Crawl, a safe and fun way to explore downtown Gilroy in the spirit of Halloween.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

When you’re ready for a break, head down to Monterey State Beach. You can explore the scenic beach area and get a different perspective on Monterey Bay. Bring the kids to Monterey Bay Aquarium, considered one of of the top aquariums in the country. For a romantic getaway, head down to Carmel-By-The Sea, a small town that will make you reminisce about the olden days.
