Anyone who's anyone knows that the downtown area tends to get a little uninviting after dark, as a majority of businesses close up shop for the day, passerby's on the street become few and far between, and many 9-to-5'ers return to the comfort of their apartments for a night of shuteye. But the hippest of the hipsters know the real downtown scene happens after the working stiffs have retreated, and all in-the-know converge upon the Fly Bar. One of the area's newest night haunts, Fly's gamble of locating within the quiet downtown area has paid off huge. Firmly entrenching itself within the art community circles, the bar features almost nightly live music (blues and acid jazz rules the roost) as well as large-scale muralistic funky art adorning the walls, courtesy of local legend Sean Spoto. Don't be surprised if you spot a celeb or two chilling in the darkly lit corners, as Fly is quickly becoming a go-to hotspot for the in crowd. Fly's open-air deck is a serious draw among the locals, as the quiet streets echo with the laughter and conversation of the rooftop crowd. And while an emphasis is paced upon their notoriously fresh cocktails (utilizing only natural ingredients such as ginger, mint leaves and lemon grass), Fly's kitchen menu is anything but 'bar food'. From tantalizing seafood appetizers to indulgent chocolate tarts, the selection is wide and the chefs stay late. Just yet another reason why Fly Bar is quickly living up to its name.
