Sometimes, given the wealth of options within the Tampa Bay area, it can be downright difficult to choose a single nighttime activity on a Saturday evening. You personally are in the mood to just relax and shoot a little pool, while your buddies are dying for some live music. Your significant other, as usual, just wants to dance, dance, dance. What's a poor apartment-ite to do? Fortunately for all involved, The Masquerade has got all your potential bases covered. A huge labyrinthian complex awaits within The Masquerade, each room comprised of a different 'face' so to speak. The main center hall is a sunken dance floor of epic proportions, where the gyrations are as wild as the beats and the music pounds you down to your core. Hip-hop throwdowns, glowstick-heavy raves and even wet-n-willd foam parties are the norm, so leave your inhibitions at the door. Old wave classics are in effect every Thursday, which draws a huge crowd of twenty-somethings grooving with ironic detachment as well as nostalgia-hungry working stiffs on their big night out. A billiard room runs parallel to the dance floor madness, featuring faux leopard skin (!) tables that lend the area a unique touch of tacky class. The music is low enough for conversation but still audible enough for those hips to sway. Nightclub The Solarium is also just a few steps away, where alternative and indie bands kick out the jams with gusto on a nightly basis. Classic torch-bearers of the underground like KMFDM and Gwar are also known to demand the venue's stage whenever they steamroll their way through town, so be sure to check the paper to see who's playing, as big time shows readily sell out. All in all, this Masquerade wears as many hats as you can imagine, making it a please-all emporium for the reveler in you.
