Forest Park Overview

A quaint village in Illinois, Forest Park lies just to the west of Chicago, allowing residents to enjoy short commutes to their personal and professional engagements. Excellent job opportunities abound across the cityscape as do chances for fun and excitement at all the major attractions, including the Lincoln Park Zoo and Millennium Park. When it comes time for rest and relaxation, it’s easy to wind down at home since all the neighborhoods boast a quiet aesthetic. As a small suburb, the community has a tight-knit feel, helping you feel right at home from the very first day in your new apartments in Forest Park.

What is the history of Forest Park?

In 1907, Forest Park broke away from Harlem as its own town, setting the stage for greatness. In its early days, cemeteries dominated the landscape, but they were quickly outnumbered by quaint home developments. Spacious apartments followed soon after in response to the demand for quality homes for renters. With Chicago just 30 minutes away, the community space remained residence heavy. The majority of the local businesses landed on Madison Street, while the Walmart Supercenter lies at the south side of town. Right in the center of the suburb, you can find an attractive park with sports fields and an aquatic center for all your recreational needs.

How is the weather in Forest Park?

While living in Forest Park apartments, you can expect to see all four seasons in all their glory. You’ll get to enjoy plenty of snow since the average annual snowfall lands in the 34-inch range. Winter temps usually hover around a high of 35 degrees and a low of 19. Rain is equally plentiful, especially in the spring and fall months. Most years see about 39 inches of rain, although it can vary depending on the annual weather pattern. Spring temps start off at around 48 degrees in March and keep climbing up to 70 by May. The sun comes out in full force by June, treating the area to 80-degree temps through the summer. The rain returns in the fall as the temperatures start to fall down through the 70s and below.

How do I get around town?

Since most Forest Park apartments offer parking to their residents, traveling by car is the most convenient transportation option. When visiting local businesses, however, you might find it difficult to find parking during peak hours. The restaurants along Madison Avenue prove the most challenging as there are only a few street parking spots for each venue. You can skip all that trouble by taking the Pace bus around town if you’d like. Want to travel to Chicago? Then, you’ll need to transfer onto the CTA Blue Line. Since the village only spans 2.4 square miles, biking to your nearby destinations serves as a solid choice as well. Forest Park is also considered very walkable, allowing you to complete your errands while on foot.

What is the Forest Park commute like?

With the Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway running right through the middle of town, it’s always easy to head straight into the city. Entrances to the Tri-State Tollway and Kennedy Expressway are relatively close as well. While traveling around town near your Forest Park apartments, you’ll likely take Des Plaines Avenue or Circle Avenue to head north and south. The vast majority of the east-west roads run through neighborhoods, making for a slow but steady jaunt to your destination. Overall, most drivers find it easy to navigate through town, especially since you can just go around the block if you make a wrong turn.

What are the local media outlets?

In most cases, you’ll catch news affecting your Forest Park apartments community from the major Chicago outlets. ABC7 Chicago and FOX32 Chicago, for example, tend to run local stories more often than not. As for print media, the Forest Park Review delivers newspapers around town, although most readers just go to their website for the top stories. Local radio stations are a great place to get the news as well, including WRRG, WNUR, and WMBI.

Why live in Forest Park, IL?

By moving to Forest Park apartments, you get to live in a place with endless charm, close-knit community connections, and a quiet, laidback atmosphere. The world just seems to move a little bit slower in town, allowing you to savor the special moments at your own pace. Plus, whenever you want to kick it up a notch, you just have to head east to Chicago for all the glitz and glam of the big city. With so many places to shop right in town, you don’t have to do that though, unless you’re in the mood for the trip.

What Forest Park landmarks should I see?

With most of the town dedicated to residential structures, there are very few landmarks in town. The most popular ones are the St. Bernardine Catholic Church, Ferrara Pan Candy Company, and Park District of Forest Park. With its Spanish Mission style architecture, the church offers a stunning glimpse into the past plus offers tons of opportunities for making community connections. If you like sweet treats, like Lemonheads and Red Hots, you’ll want to visit the candy shop once in a while as well. As for the park, it’s a great spot for outdoor activities plus aquatics any time of the year.

What is there to do around Forest Park?

When you want to get out of the house while staying in town, Madison Streets is definitely the place to go. Restaurants and bars line the streetside, letting you swing by for a meal and drinks to remember at your leisure. Along that road, you’ll also find a tattoo parlor, exercise studios, and many fun stores to visit. To shop for all your essentials, it’s often much easier to head south to the Walmart Supercenter, however. If you’d just like to stretch your legs, you can go to the park at the center of town or ride your bike through the nearby bike trails.

Any annual festivals or Forest Park events to know?

Only a few festivals arrive in town each year since Chicago serves as a much better place for big events. The most popular is Oktoberfest at the St. Bernadine Church, although the Rib-fest at the village serves as a close second. In the summer, the community comes together for the Forest Park No Glove National Invitational Softball Tournament. Featuring the best softball teams in the Chicago area, this tournament brings out the crowds and gets everyone hyped for the championship game.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

With its location right in the northeast corner of the state, Forest Park apartments put you in range of all the top vacation spots in four states. Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin all offer many chances for fun and adventure. You can vacation along the shores of the Great Lakes, including at the ever-popular Indiana Dunes National Park. For even more fun, plan a trip to the exciting Six Flags Great America over in Gurnee, Illinois, or go to Indiana Beach in Monticello, Indiana. Want to take a day trip instead? Put the Haunted Trails Family Amusement Park and Pirates Cove Children’s Theme Park on your itinerary.

Where is the best place to move in Forest Park?

When looking for apartments in Forest Park, you will find the majority of the options right along Des Plaines Avenue. There are a couple of other apartment communities down by the Walmart, too, if you’d like to be closer to that major shopping hub. To find your ideal place to live, just travel all across town, taking in the chill atmosphere and seeing all the different venues. Then, go on a tour of the apartments in the areas you like best to find an apartment that meets your needs in just the right spot.
