Write a ReviewManassas is a great mixture of small city life with the vibrancy of nearby Washington, DC just a short distance away. People living in Manassas can commute to the city to work, and spend their weekends touring the historic battlefield or taking a leisurely canoe ride down the Potomac River.
Manassas was originally Manassas Junction, with the named shortened after its important role as the site of two Civil War battles. It officially became the town of Manassas in 1873, and became a city in 1975.
The winters in Manassas are usually mild to cool, and spring and fall weather is very comfortable and punctuated with the occasional hot day. Summers are hot and humid in the area, with average temperatures in July and August in the 90s.
While you can walk through historic downtown Manassas, you need a car to get around to most errands. Three Amtrak routes run through Manassas, and the Virginia Rail Express also has service in the city. Manassas has its own regional airport and Ronald Reagan National Airport is a little over 30 miles away. Dulles International is less than 20 miles away.
State routes 28 and 234 run through Manassas, making it easy for people commuting elsewhere to then hop over to I-66 or US-29. People commuting to Washington, DC then choose between 395 or 495, depending on where they need to go in the city.
For national and international news, people living in apartments in Manassas rely on the Washington Post. Public radio 88.1, 89.3 WPFW Jazz and 99.9 WFRE Country serve the listening needs of Manassas. Because of its proximity, Manassas residents have access to most DC television and radio stations.

If you love history and the outdoors, Manassas is a great place to live. Manassas National Battlefield Park and Bull Run Regional Park are a short distance from the city center. It is also a short trip to the Potomac River for scenic canoe rides and fishing.
Each year in June, Manassas hosts the Heritage Railway Festival, celebrating the city's history as an important junction between Washington, DC and points south. In September the city hosts a classic car show right downtown, and offers walking tours of its historic buildings year-round.
People in Manassas can easily spend a weekend or week in nearby DC, enjoying all the free museums and historic locations our nation's capital has to offer. For people who want an outdoor experience, the Blue Ridge Mountains are only a short trip from Manassas, giving people the opportunity to relax in scenic cabins.
Because Manassas is a small city of less than 40,000 people and 10 square miles, there is a downtown area and then apartment scattered across the city. The area does boast several modern buildings to choose from, as the area is attractive to young commuters who work in DC but want a quiet place on weekends.
