The area that comprises Plainfield was not settled until 1685. The Quakers settled in the area and named their settlement Milltown. The name came from the large gristmill in the civilization. The name was not changed to Plainfield until 1800. It was not until 1847 that Plainfield was incorporated as a township of New Jersey. Aside from modern buildings, Plainfield has not changed much and currently has a large number of registered historic districts.

In fact, the summer high is usually 86 degrees while the winter low drops below 22 degrees every year. Residents will experience nearly 50 inches of rain throughout the year and 22 inches or more of snow during the winter. If blizzards roll through the area, residents can expect more than 30 inches in a given winter. Fortunately, apartments in Plainfield do not experience much humidity. Those with small children can visit Ponderosa Farm Park and Cedar Brook Park Cricket Field.

What is there to do around Plainfield?

Residents of Plainfield can schedule a meet and greet with the mayor, attend children and adult health classes at the community center, and watch local Lego robotics competitions. Additionally, the area?s many parks have trails and picnic areas that are fun to visit during the summer. Of course, the public transportation system makes it safe and easy to complete other activities that are just outside of Plainfield as well.

Residents can even visit the Statue of Liberty in 40 minutes via car or 1.5 hours via public transportation. Longer road trips (over 6 hours) include Niagara Falls and Cleveland. So long as you have your passport ready, you can travel internationally to Canada in less than one day! 

Where is the best place to move in Plainfield?

The two most popular areas to live in Plainfield include City Center and the northern part of town. The Plainfield apartments in this area are affordable, modern, and come with all the bells and whistles. Additionally, these two areas are in the heart of the action with entertainment, shopping, and dining just minutes away on foot. However, that does not mean the other neighborhoods in Plainfield are bad options. The beauty of living in Plainfield is that the whole area is centered around walkability and community living.
