Redlands Overview

Located in the welcoming confines of San Bernadino County, Redlands is a charming and historic city in the world-famous state of California. Home to almost 70,000 residents, this citrus and higher education-heavy locale is an excellent option for anyone considering a move to the west coast.

What is the history of Redlands?

Settled in the mid-1800s, Redlands truly came into its own with the addition of the Southern Pacific and Sante Fe Railroads. With the connection to much of greater California solidified, land in the region was quickly in high demand. Citrus crops helped contribute further to the burgeoning local economy, and by 1892 the city boasted electricity. By the 1900s Redlands slowly emerged as a popular retiree location, earning much acclaim for its floral installations across the city (especially roses), and the city remains home to an assortment of historical mansion and townhomes.

How is the weather in Redlands?

Technically a Mediterranean climate, Redlands apartments are prone to hot and sun-filled summers, and mild, snow-free winters. Summer can often extend well into both spring and fall, with April the rainest month in most typical years.

How do I get around town?

The Omnitrans Bus System covers service in and around the city, with Metrolink adding additional coverage into greater Los Angeles. Despite its history as a 'railroad town', those calling Redlands rentals home will only find a lone rail offering for travel. Thus, many residents rely on a private car or truck for getting around, although ride sharing options such as Lyft are also popular in the city. The Ontario International Airport is about 20 mies away.

What is the Redlands commute like?

The famed I-10 cuts through the center of Redlands, with the Foothill Freeway continuing all the way to the coast. While getting around the city proper is generally a breeze, those living in Redlands apartments can still expect a degree of that famous California traffic.

What are the local media outlets?

The 'LA Times' acts as a primary print news source in the city, and broadcasting options remain strong thanks to numerous nearby affiliates of major networks including CBS and NBC. Radio is ecelectic and very 'west coast' in flavor, a winning mixture of Tejano, jazz, modern rock and Top 40 favorites.

Why live in Redlands, CA?

Always in-demand and boasting an impressive variety of amenities ranging from shopping to nightlife, public parks to lauded local schools, Redlands apartments make a great option for anyone in the market for a new home in California. Home to both software companies as well as footware manufacturers, Redlands offers an impressive local economic base and an attractive west coast ambiance.

What Redlands landmarks should I see?

The University of Redlands is a private liberal arts college that is well-deserving of its high reputation, and worthy of a weekend visit. An assortment of local hot spots can be found on the National Registery of Historical Landmarks, including Kimberly Crest and the A.K. Smiley Library, and the Barton School House dates all the way back to 1877, all easily reached from a variety of apartments in Redlands.

What is there to do around Redlands?

Tour the Redlands Historical Glass Museum, home to an impressive collection of works, or get historic with a visit to the Licoln Shrine. The Fox Theatre date all the way back to 1928, and continues offering stage productions to residents of Redlands rentals to this day, and no California experience is complete without a swing by the San Bernadino County Museum.

Any annual festivals or Redlands events to know?

The Redlands Bowl Summer Fest is the oldest of its kind in southern Cali, offering free admission and plenty of fanfare each summer. The Redlands Theatre Festival was established in 1972, and presents drama annually in the Avice Meeker Sewall Theater. The local Shakespeare Festival is also a big hit with local fans of the stage.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Make the short trip into greater Los Angeles to bask in the homes of Hollywood and the numerous nightclubs and dining establishments, or simply take a few days away from your new Redlands apartment to enjoy the sunny California beaches immortalized in so many pop songs. San Diego and its famous seafood is a quick jaunt to the south, and both hiking and camping can be found with minimal effort.

Where is the best place to move in Redlands?

Redlands apartments for rent are about as diverse as the residents that call them home, ranging from luxurious 1-bedrooms offering onsite swimming pool and sweeping city views, to economic-yet-spacious family units complete with easy access to local schools and pet-friendly policies. So what are you waiting for? Start your hunt for the next great Cali rental in your life, and start enjoying all the west coast has to offer!
