The city was established in June 1881. It served as a midway station for the Texas and Pacific Railway. Over thirty radio stations also serve the city. There are both Spanish and English speaking radio station in this city. It is served by one major local newspaper.

Here are some of the must-see landmarks when you are in Midland: George Bush Family Home – George H.W. Bush bought the home after him, and his friend founded an oil company. With the money, he was able to afford this large home, moving in from another one on East Maple Street. The family later moved to Houston in 1959. Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans Memorial – A memorial dedicated to the soldiers that fought in the Vietnam War from the 30 West Texas Permian Basin counties and died. It was also built in honor of those who fought and survived in that war.

What is there to do around Midland?

There are many things you can do almost all year round due to the great weather in the area. Here they are: I-20 Wildlife Preserve – The preserve was spawned from a donation of an 87-acre urban playa lake to the city. However, no resources were available to develop the park. The result has been that volunteers have taken it upon themselves to maintain this nature preserve. It is a nice place to relax during the weekends. Restaurants – The city has quite many high-quality joints you can visit. If you are a foodie, you will have a great time sampling all your favorite cuisines in the city. Museums –The city is laden with many museums. Whether you want to visit the former homes of famous people who lived in Midland or about its history, you are spoilt for choice. There is always a museum open for you to explore.

There are many festivals available in the city. Among the most popular is the Festival of Trees held at the Centennial Library, Midland Nativity Festival, and the Midland Storytelling Festival.

There are quite many great places to vacation in Midland, one of them is the Sibley Nature Center. You can stay at one of the nice and cozy hotels located in the city. Among them are the La Quinta Inn & Suites Midland North and La Quinta Inn Midland.
