What is the history of Rego Park?
Rego Park is one of the most popular shopping destinations in Queens County. Rego Park stands on a swamp known as Hempstead Swamp. In 1653, Dutch and English farmers resided in this area and formed a community known as Whitepot. Later, the Remsen family constructed a burial ground, which is still present in Alderton Street. Along the Hempstead Swamp, these early settlers used the land for farming (corn, straw, vegetables, and more). They sold their produce to Manhattan before the Chinese moved in and started selling their goods to Chinatown. This area was later renamed Rego Park in 1925 after the Real Good Construction Company began development plans. Between the years 1925-1927, this company went forward to build rentals, stores, and apartment buildings, turning it to a middle-class housing community. Today, Rego Park is home to an immigrant population from Tajikistan, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

Rego Park experiences Spring from March through May, which is generally cold. Spring is not a good time for tourism. On the other hand, summer favors tourism through June to August, with temperatures being a bit warm and moderate precipitation. A commute from Rego Park to Midtown Manhattan is about 30-40 minutes via train. The major rail station is along 63rd Drive. However, those who do not have a car can walk around the streets at any time of the day or night. Also, you can move around using buses, QM11, Q60, and QM18. Before it was abandoned in 1962, the Long Island Rail Road overpass seen between Alderton Streets and Austin was the previous Rego Park Station.
