Sunnyvale Overview
As the seventh most popular city in San Francisco Bay Area, the city is located in Santa Clara County and has been praised as being one of the most secure cities in U.S, with the implementation of the unified Department of Public Safety Act. It has great and diverse history showing its fast growing journey into a highly developed industrious and technology based city. Listed as a bicycle friendly community with unified transportation system, multiple public sites and great weather, it contains qualities of a perfect home for people in all levels of life.
What is the history of Sunnyvale?
Sunnyvale, originally known as Rancho Pastoria de las Borregas, was founded by Martin Murphy Jr. in 1850. He bought it as a piece of land for $12,500 and later named it Bay view. In the 1870s the county property tax laws, imports and soil degradation destroyed the wheat farming business and gave rise to fruit agriculture. The fruit orchards became so prevalent that in 1886, the Santa Clara County was called, Garden of the world. Later in 1901, the residents of Murphy adopted the name Sunnyvale after being banned from using the name Encinal or Murphy and in 1912 Sunnyvale was incorporated hence becoming an official city. The World War 11 was what brought tremendous change to the economy of the town, turning the fruit industry into a high-tech Industry, building marine steam engines, naval guns and rocket launchers to aid the war. After the war, the fruit orchards farms were cleared to build factories offices and homes, branding Sunnyvale as now headquarters to most high-tech companies. Sunnyvale�s one-hundredth anniversary was on August 25, 2012.
How is the weather in Sunnyvale?
Sunnyvale has a Mediterranean climate, with comfortably warm, very dry summers and mild, moist winters. The temperature of an average daytime summer is in the high 70s and below 50F(10C) in winter. Snow and tornados are very scarce.
How do I get around town?
Sunnyvale�s diverse transport networks make the journey around the city very easy and quick to adopt. The city is served by Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (light rail and buses) and by Caltarian commuter rail with two stations in Sunnyvale and Lawrence Station. It also has great bicycle accommodation strategies such as off-street bike lanes and activated traffic signals. When it comes to airports, the City has three nearby airports, San Jose International Airport, San Francisco International Airport and lastly, Oakland International Airport.
What is the Sunnyvale commute like?
Several major roads and freeways go through the city with very easy intersections. The Central and Lawrence Expressways, California State Route 82 passing through the city Centre, California State Route 85, U.S Highway 101, California State Route 237 the Subway Freeway and Interstate 280 the Junipero Serra Freeway.

The city has wide media outlets that keep the residents updated. They comprise of newspaper, magazines, television and radio station. An example is the Mercury News that brings in all categories of news, from local to sports, business and entertainment.
