Like Me, You Pay Your Own Way
July 31, 2015Shootings around the corner, homeless people asking for change every time we head to the G train. Sometimes, Bed-Stuy isn't the ideal place to reside; We New Yorkers of course enjoy our routine coffee shops and our pit stops on our way home from work.. But how do we make our stay in Brooklyn worth while if we need to watch or wallets? How do we stay healthy if our apartments aren't picture-perfect nests? I'm 31 and went to school for acting and music. Though we pay Williamsburg prices, we stay in ...apartment 3L because it has our favorite kitchen, our tomato plants out on the fire escape give us a "pet" to look after, our apartment has our favorite wooden table to play board games on like Sorry or Life, we have a cozy couch with a window above it. I record music here, Des Skypes her family here, Sophie cooks beautiful family meals here. The walls weren't reoainted when we moved in so we fill them with our pictures and maps. Apartment reviews have many factors at play. Our apartment without us isn't worth what the landlord charges .. But we make it feel worth it by making it our own. Sometimes, we don't have the money to get us to the next level in our professional lives.. We pay rent, go to work, pay rent and go to work. We save money to travel home to see family.. But... Imagine if the money you made from work went straight to your career. Then you could make your career.. Your work. That's my goal. My apartment in Bed-Stuy is my nest. The rent unfortunately is going up to 3000 a month.. 1000 each. I've moved 6 times in 9 years in New York due to rent increases. I can't stress how important it is to make my apartment an enjoyable and healthy environment to live in. We can't afford to do the other things here in NYC. If I had one piece of advice to other New Yorkers.. I'd say to please make your home just that.. A home. It's the only way you won't go out every night. It's the best way to make you feel like you have an escape from the loud, fast, hustle of New York City. Fill it with your life and build yourself one place where you know you fit in. Then ... Build your career. -ChadwickRead MoreReview from Apartments.com

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on scale of 1 (below average) and to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider needs as part of the school selection process.
