SCAM, DO NOT RENT
April 28, 2022Do not trust the obviously fake review. Maybe this was our fault, but we rented without touring, which doomed us to a nightmare for the next year. Rooms are so much smaller than they appeared in pictures. 2 did not have closets, could barely fit furniture. The building itself is also so ugly and run down. Walls paper thin, so got verrrry acquainted with my neighbors' every movement. There were also LITERAL RATS in the apartment, which never got resolved because of how INCOMPETENT and ABSENT ...management was. We got ignored for months and months. No compassion. Consider yourself warned.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
No Frills Gem Hidden in the Heart of Midtown East
August 11, 2015While Midtown East is traditionally looked to as a business enclave, there is much to be said for this highly functioning neighborhood. Nestled among skyscrapers and office buildings, you will find many apartments, much like 237 East 53rd, that are surprisingly both spacious and affordable. While some may gripe that they are far from the bustling action downtown, I find the proximity to Grand Central and, more importantly, my office, unbeatable. Not to mention the slew of restaurants and bars ...scattered along Second Avenue, as well as a major subway station right on the block, 53rd street has proven to be a prime place to call home. One can easily hop downtown to Soho or the West Village without even crossing the street on either the 6, E, or M train. Being in such a commercialized area, has also afforded me the luxury of always feeling safe at night, which can be a real issue in other neighborhoods. Additionally, the Turtle Bay area offers countless bars and restaurants for anything from a quick happy hour to a big night out on the town. Grocery needs are also easily fulfilled as there are 4 major food store chains all within walking distance from the apartment. As for the building itself, 237 East 53rd street is an ideal place to call home as you begin to pave your way in New York City. I consider myself lucky to have stumbled upon this gem. Living with 2 roommates can be tough when space is tight, and I am happy to say that will never be a problem in this building. All of our bedrooms are sizable, with ample light and a walk in closet in one room. High ceilings, a true full bathroom with a tub/shower combo, and an amazing kitchen/lounge area all make the layout of this apartment a dream come true. Though there is no doorman, the Super is incredibly attentive, attuned to our needs, and always quick to lend a hand. Huge by New York standards, and at an unbeatable rent, this apartment building truly is a dream come true. One caveat I will add in- it is a walk up- and living on the 4th floor never gets easier, but hey, I’m saving hundreds on a gym membership!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
