July 7, 2022I have rented 4058 43rd St since January 2020. When I moved in, the yard was nothing but dead grass and weeds. I asked my landlady if she would mind if I planted a tree; my intention being to get an avocado tree because I read that they grow fast and I just wanted to create a bit of shade and privacy. It’s been a few months since then and I have completely transformed the yard into a lush orchard of fruit trees. I even was able to get the city to plant some trees out front on the ...sidewalk. Since I started gardening I’ve had so many neighbors pass by and comment on how much nicer the area looks and how good of a job I’m doing. Before I started I had spoken to hardly anyone in the neighborhood. I think slowly but surely this neighborhood will improve and become much more friendly, clean, and safe.
