Penthouse with Manhattan views I can afford?

It seemed like a dream come true. A huge 1 bedroom apartment (by NYC standards) with views of Jersey City, Manhattan, and Downtown Brooklyn. Elevator, laundry and super on site, close to everything and I could afford it! But quickly this great deal turned into a nightmare as my landlord found loopholes in the rent stabilization laws and quickly raised the rent ridiculously and demanded compensation for general maintenance of the building. Now "rent poor" I can't afford to stay and can't afford to ...
leave. Moral of the story, if it seems to good to be true it isn't.
