A vent over your stove is a luxury. If something is broken and you invoke your legal right to temporarily withhold the rent until they fix it, prepare to hear loudness from them about it. Your quality of life depends on which side of the building you're getting an apt in. If you get an apt on one side of the building then your window shows the livelihood of the parking lot. If you get an apt on a certain side of the building then you're staring into the attached church, like literally through the church windows. A lot of things here stay broken when they break. The basement washing machine barely worked and literally left stains on the white clothes when it did. When it went" ka-put", they didn't fix the quarter-eating washing machine or the non-heating dryer until after the rent got raised. The back porch walkway and [the once] 2 stairways started falling apart from wear and tear and didn't get fixed until after people left/started bringing in new tenants. When it takes a month to bring in a used fridge cheap enough to replace your dead decades-old, used fridge while you go without one is unacceptable. When you have to wait weeks for the landlord to fix the broken window that was like that upon moving in during the dead of winter is unacceptable. I went through 3 weeks of a black spotty-water problem where I had to use a series of water filter attachments and Britta pitchers in order to drink clean water. I had to take thorough pictures of it coming through the tub water and send the pictures to the landlord for them to believe me because they wouldn't come in and look for themselves. It's something that can be enjoyed with tepid expectations. If something breaks in your apt there, even though you're paying enough to deserve servicing you're better off fixing it yourself if you can.
