Friendly Management, Poor Maintenance & Upkeep
August 7, 2015I live in one of the ten units at 927-935 1/2 61st Street. I've been here almost three years and have a few complaints. I'll preface them with my opinion of the management. I think the owners (a law firm) are cool. They have always been kind. So, I give them that. However, this building is poorly taken care of. First, [I guess] the market rent for junior 1-bedroom apartments are around $900-$1000 in the southland area of Vermont/Slauson which is absolutely terrible being that there are NO ...amenities on site, and NO W/D hookup in the units. None of the apartments are ADA compliant, but that is to be expected with older buildings in Los Angeles. Rent in the third year of being here has gone up tp $950 from $900. Three percent, now, seems a bit much when the rent is already high. The apartment landscape is entirely kept up by one of the tenants (now) because it would take forever for the hired landscapers to come. Weeks would go by and nothing done. In addition, there is a terrible scent coming from the plants. It does not smell like manurer, but literally like dead rodents. In fact, it is common to see them around the premises and inside the apartments. Especially during winter. The carport is very small and narrow. The garages have about 1 1/2 car length to back out. It's impossible to pull out if your garage is in front of the dumpster or the outer edge next to the fence. No one parks in their garage but the tenant who is directly in front of the narrow driveway to the carport because of this. The exterior paint and architecture of the apartment is nice and in good shape. The interior of each apartment has laminate wood flooring and ceramic tile in kitchen and bathroom. These apartments do not come with a refrigerator or stove. It's completely gas, by the way. There are only two door frames with molding [out of five]. It looks weird, and the bathroom door never shuts. If you have a door gym, forget about it! Bathtub was glazed with regular paint! It has caused A HUGE plumbing issue. So much so the wood underneath the kitchen sink is rotting. Also the units could use new electrical wiring. Other than those complaints, the neighbors are great and no other issues outside of it being noisy during the summer break. My suggestion, if you want to workout at or work from home... this may not be the building. Due to zoning and socioeconomics, this area lacks in quality food and grocery as well.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
