The in-house maintenance is great. They respond immediately which is good because you will call them; often. Since we've lived here our ceiling and windows have leaked rain water into our apartment (not on the top floor) repeatedly and we've also had a couple other minor issues that could happen at any complex much less an old apartment complex like this one. In all cases the maintenance crew has responded in under 30 minutes and have been very professional, polite, and really seemed to want to
...fix the problem. And though sometimes, like in the case of a difficult leaky roof, it might understandably take an extra attempt, they do a good job. Maintenance is the only reason this place even deserves a star.
The office staff is also very polite (even when they're blowing you off), but not nearly as effective. They must have a lot of issues to deal with because emails sent to alert them of a problem regularly go without a response and every time I talk to the staff in-person about an issue (which has been three times in three years) they are very dismissive. When trying to address a noise complaints, and broken washers and dryers (that you have to pay to use) i have been told who I can call to get the problem resolved. Isn't that part of why we pay rent? It's a little frustrating that they don't see that taking the time to try and resolve these issues is an inconvenience to start with.
Aside from the issue with the staff the buildings themselves have issues too. If you tour the complex during the day, just know that it tends to be considerably more noisy at night (the u-shaped construction amplifies sound), and if you're a non-smoker you might need to keep your windows closed as, again because of the way the buildings are constructed, cigarette smoke from your neighbors will blow into your apartment through open windows/ sliding doors, presenting a no win situation in the summer. If the neighbors below smoke in their bathroom you will be able to smell it in yours as well. And then there's the noise from your neighbors... It's simple, if they're doing anything you're likely to hear it clearly; in the bathroom, in the bedroom, you get the idea. Also the trees in the upper lot drip pitch onto your car in the summer.
Overall, there is just too many things wrong with this place to make it a good value for the money. We are looking forward to moving as soon as possible.
