Skyline NYC : A Room With A View
September 24, 2015Among the beautiful tree-lined streets of Historic Brooklyn Heights sits a building called "The Cranlyn", on Cranberry Street. It is a beautiful pre-war building with original art-deco decor of peacocks engraved in the sides of the building, sitting above the doorways. The theme of peacocks continue as you walk into the practically ballroom-sized marble floored and dome shaped lights lobby, with the decorative birds engraved in the original material of the doors to the laundry room, and the ...doors to the elevator. There is a 24 hour doorman, and it feels like a nice and safe place to call home. As you enter the apartment on the 7th floor the first thing you notice is the 1930's original cork floor, with a beautiful design of cork tiles and a deeper colored border running along the edges by the wall. The apartment faces west and south, so if you are entering the apartment in the morning, or afternoon, or early evening, it will be filled with warm sunlight. There are 2 closets; perhaps 5 too short for studio living in New York. But this is New York City. The bathroom has original fixtures, and a large over-sized tub. There is a small window in the bathroom -- and even this has a view of the NYC skyline. The kitchen is tiny, but very cute and sweet, also with original fixtures. Like the cream colored and moss green metal cabinets. The main room of the studio has three windows facing south, over a garden with tall trees. There are cardinals on the tree-branches, singing all day long. And then there is one other window facing west, and this is the window with the view. Like a postcard that a tourist might look at while sitting in a cafe in another city: there are the lights of the Freedom Tower, the NYC Harbor, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge, and everything in between. There is the cross of the little church from across the street, almost in the same exact line of vision as the arches on the Brooklyn Bridge. And the tops of the trees like little green mountains popping up and mapping the streets... But you don't need to be sitting in a cafe in Paris, or wherever, looking at a postcard of the magical skyline of Manhattan. You can have all of this from the comfort of your own little room, which you could call home.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
