Series of unfortunate events
February 5, 2017I really loved my apartment when I signed my lease in November 2015. By October of 2016, I couldn’t wait to get out of the apartment. The price was great for the location but after looking at the long list of issues I had, the apartment was not at all worth the money I was throwing into it. Many issues are due to lack of effort by the management staff, poor maintenance and the revolving door that is the “manager” position. Along the list, I had 2 foundational type floods into my bedroom, in ...which the carpet was not replaced (only steam cleaned the first time and then SOME padding replaced the second). My upstairs neighbor super sucked. I’m talking parties on a Tuesday at 2AM, despite my pleading to him to go somewhere else and an apparent effort by management to “warn him”. This genius flooded my bedroom TWICE because he left his sink on while under the influence of who knows what. As a result, nothing was done to my carpet or walls by management that had damage due to the flood. The same upstairs neighbor smoked cigarettes like crazy on his balcony, in his apartment and right above my front door despite those threatening emails and signs from the management! (ha!) Yes, that smell traveled through my vents. Lovely. My bathtub had sewage backup into it (gross…) three times. Later, it was found that there was a break in the pipe line…but I’m not sure why this took three times of other people’s poo coming up my bathtub drain three times. Yes, three times. Finally, Katie (bless her) worked with me to get out of my lease 6 months early. There was also constant new cracks in the walls and doors not shutting or opening correctly due to the foundation shifting. But I do recognize this is just part of being in Texas and in an older place. The best part is that the office tried to charge me $400 for carpet replacement, an extra tub clean $30 (which their team was the last to clean as I refused with the sewage) and a fridge clean $30 (after they replaced my broken fridge with a brand new unused one after I was already moving out. And I only fought this with the email evidence I had because of course they “lost all my maintenance requests” and when I logged into resident portal it was wiped clean. There are better places out there if you’re looking for location! Seriously, if you’re paying $1034 a month for this minimum, why aren’t they putting money into fixing these issues?!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
