Worst Apartments ever :(

I wish I listen to all the terrible reviews, but I moved in, hoping that the location would make up for it. It has been the worst experience living here, mold, broken appliances that they won’t come and fix, took all my security deposit after stating they would only take $200 out of it. Really bad management. I had to move out because renewing a lease here knowing what I know now would be terrible.

Terrible property managers both past and current. The buildings are in daily neglect. They clean the main lobby walkway with a third party vendor 3x per week. 1 person is responsible for all 6 buildings. They simply won't add more people or services to the contract per the cleaning vendor. Once a week they clean the laundry room. Once a quarter they address and clean the building. Residents are great overall but some do not pick up after their dogs. You will find dog crap all over the ...

What an excellent location! I've been a renter for about a year and enjoyed their amenities and living near the coast. I always find the staff at the leasing office working on their computers or the phone or ready to assist. Christina was always professional and helpful whenever I needed service or had questions. It's great to see people who enjoy their job while keeping hundreds of tenants satisfied. Your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. Keep up the excellent work, Christina and staff!

The place looks ok, and the staff id nice when meeting to inquire, however, once you move in you no loner matter. Management is horrible! and maintains is a joke. If you are considering this place I would recommend asking tentants about their experiance and coming at night to walk around. Half the time lights outside donot work. Think twice before you sign. Parking is a horrible and trash is a major issue. Have low expectation and youll be ok.

My roommates and I knew that we would not get our deposit back for our apt in the B building based on how the office operates, we knew they'd find a way to max out the cleaning fees to make it take the whole $600 - but even worse, they are trying to charge us $900 after not showing up for the move out walk through - nothing was left broken or dirty. When we received the notice/bill I tried to call and discuss options. The manager was on vacation and the following week left office everyday by 1 pm ...
it took a month of leaving voicemails , emails and showing up to the office in person to finally hear back - at that point they had already sent our bill to collections. HELPFUL TIP : call the collections office to have them “verify and validate” the debt- it legally cannot go on your report until that’s done. I sent a nice legal letter to Elán and the company explaining why the charges were illegal , it has been a whole year since this and the collections agency nor I have heard from Elán so as for now we don’t owe but we definitely won’t be seeing our money returned to us. They wait and put things off hoping issues will just disappear. For Move in - we were going to take advantage of the 'move in early' deal, which they postponed by a week so we only got in a few days early -they postponed it because they were going to resurface the cracked tubs, which they Was NOT done by the time we moved in. They scheduled it 4 times and no showed (each time I had to pay for daycare for my dog) and finally came the 5th time. Which is how it went any time we needed maintenance done . Parking - Parking SUCKS.You are allotted one covered parking space no matter what, even if you have a 3 bedroom. There is absolutely no parking in open spaces after 7PM. It’s supposed to be a gated community but the gates never worked, my car was broken into twice . they take no responsibility for anything. If they don't do it, it's your fault somehow. A slew of things were not fixed in a timely manner including: Part of the ceiling falling on my roommate, which they repaired using BLUE PAINTER TAPE to fix- it fell an hour later .going without electricity for 5 days( which turned out they miss-wired everything making our place a fire hazard) They were having issues with pipes and turned everyone’s hot water off from 8-4 pm every day for almost a whole month. the garbage disposal shooting out dirty water from the dishwasher, the list goes on and on. This place is great if you want somewhere to live in Cardiff and enjoy the smell of garbage in the hallways, having your car towed, tripping over holes in the floor (under the carpet), having packages go missing, having packages opened by staff, maintenance never responding to requests, getting stuck in the elevator with paramedics, and having noise complaints filed against you while you're out of town. The buildings are essentially adjacent to the main highway of the west coast (I-5). If a truck uses its engine brake or anything with a loud exhaust drives past, it sounds like it is in your apartment (so, good luck sleeping through the night). I have honestly never had a more unpleasant living experience in my life. Really read the reviews of this complex and all other complexes managed by the Elan group. The area has been rampant with theft recently. Over the holidays over 200 packages were stolen from residences doorsteps and cars get broken into here a lot. There is no parking and they threaten to tow for parking on the curbs on the side when they dont even have tow signs posted up anywhere. I don't recommend this place to anyone. First off, right next to the freeway, you hear traffic 24 hours a day. Go inside your unit and things break all the time. One light switch to the entire apartment switches not working. Good luck reaching anyone on the management team. The customer service team is horrible. Cardiff by the Sea apartments is in a nice little beach community about a half mile from the beach. The one bedroom is a little expensive as I pay about 1700 a month with out utilities. The complex is gated and sport 3 jacuzzis and two pools. Its proximity to the freeway can be great but at times noisy depending were in the complex you are. Their is a minor theft problem in the community so keeping your car locked is important at night. Also a strange rotten egg smell will sometimes fill the air ...
