As a somewhat atypical location for UT students being south of MLK, the local police do not pay as much attention to the area and safety, especially at night, becomes a concern. Due to a serious presence of homeless persons dwelling near the Guadalupe entrance, most residents have switched to using the back door, which opens up to a potentially equally unsafe alley. Luckily if your room faces guad you'll be able to hear the noises of drunkards at the bar only a few doors down or any time someone is being heckled across the way. Rooms are small, but definitely better than the dorms size wise and private enough, especially with the bathrooms being linked to each persons bedroom.
