Terrible parking and not secure
November 5, 2025I do NOT recommend living here. The apartment itself is fine, but the area is INCREDIBLY inconvenient and has had multiple security issues. I wanted to live near downtown but not have the issues of parking. Parking has been my biggest issue here by far. The parking in front of the building IS NOT owned by the building. It's owned by PortKC, so the building doesn't manage it. I learned this the FIRST time my car was broken into, as did several of my neighbors whose cars have also been broken into. ...When I let them know, all I got was a "sorry, you need to reach out to PortKC, we don't own that." AKA that's not my problem. Also, being beside the KC Current stadium on game days is an actual nightmare. You have to plan around it because you can't get in or out easily. The highway exit to get off is closed and redirects you through stadium traffic and they close the bridge to only be for all the busses which also park and block things in front of the building. And if you want to park during that time, forget about it. Everyone parks in our area because it's free. There have also been two instances where a drunk homeless person wandered into the vestibule of the apartment, and I couldn't get inside because the cops were there or I was too afraid. There is a volleyball court behind the building that has leagues 6 nights a week throughout the spring and summer, easily 120+ people every night, and a new restaurant with no parking lot whose people park in that parking too. You can pay to park in the gated area, but it's insanely overpriced considering what the rents are and the fact that there's literally nowhere else you can park nearby. They obviously did NOT think through the area's development and constantly have "special promotions" for parking because so many people have complained. I've also had MULTIPLE packages stolen from the common areas (they're supposed to go into lockers in the package room, but the delivery people don't always do that) and when I've tried to get camera footage to file a report to get my items replaced, they told me the cameras don't even WORK! They're just for show!! The people I've had to interact with in the office have also been very rude and short with me like I'm bothering them, which I've noticed in other reviews is a common theme. If you care about parking or security, find another apartment. This one is NOT it.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Rot Just below the Surface
June 1, 2022Their website says the Union "delivers a lifestyle where you are surrounded by everything you need and more" and "Prepare to elevate your lifestyle thanks to every feature included in our pet-friendly residences." But what they don't say is that Buckingham properties, the owner of the union doesn't spend money to maintain the property. Pool furniture is original to 2018 and has not been replaced. Additionally the pool is neither heated nor saltwater. Also the gym equipment is not maintain. Be ...careful on the treadmills, the belts often slip while you are running on them. The leasing office regularly turns over employees and usually fails to respond to requests or complaints. The property manager, Shannon and assistant property manager Manee or in over their head. All the negative reviews listed for the property are still true today.Property Manager Responded

Do Not Move In
April 19, 2022They kept my entire security deposit when I left the apt in great condition. They made things up and did not care to fix it. Other things: People party in the parking lots and there is no security. The pool is always dirty. Their valet trash doesn't pick up trash when they're supposed to and expect you to take it out when you pay $25/month.Property Manager Responded

Security is nonexistent
September 9, 2021My partner lives here and has had the WORST experience. I would not recommend this apartment complex to my worst enemy. Their pool opened two months late this year, their "secured" garage door is unsecured so anyone can get in at any time, and physical safety on the premises is so/so. One of his vehicles has been damaged resulting in high dollar repairs multiple times and the office has yet to do anything about it. KCPD has two police reports as the vehicle was rendered inoperable until repair ...and this is just in the last two months. He also witnessed a gun being pulled on another person in the parking lot within the last few days. They always say they are pending an answer but never define who the answer is from or why they can't deliver on their contractual promises (such as the garage door I referenced that is stuck open). Many people pay to park in that garage as it is supposed to be safer than the parking outside only to get their vehicles vandalized and stolen. I witnessed one person tie a tow chain to his motorcycle and lock it to one of the garage pillars because that is how bad the vehicle theft is. DO NOT LIVE HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR SECURITY!Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Worst experience ever
December 3, 2020Worst experience ever. Do not live here. The new management company does not care about anything, my car has been broken into three times, I’ve been assaulted outside the front door, there is no security they’ve taken away the concierge, the place is simply dirty and they don’t even answer the phone. Do not live here!Review from Apartments.com
Not what it used to be
November 26, 2020I have never written a review, but I feel it’s important to share with you my experience, as making a decision about the place you plan to call “home” is a big one. I lived at Union for two two years, and it was a great place to live until a new management team took over in early 2020. I eagerly moved out in August 2020. It’s now November, and I still haven’t received my deposit - not because I left the unit in disrepair, but because this is indicative of how this new management team handles ...everything. They are unresponsive and very difficult to get in contact with. Additionally, the trash rooms were always a mess, as were the stair wells. I was fortunate to be tucked into a corner, away from a lot of traffic, so I was able to avoid some of the horror stories I’ve heard from other tenants, regarding cleanliness and upkeep. Lastly, the location really is not great. I always felt close - but not close enough - to the River Market and a fun city life. So, while I loved my actual unit (I was first tenant in it) and my view of the park and river, ultimately the hassle of the location, the decline in quality/cleanliness, and the under-performing management team turned my experience sour.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Beware of new corporate management!
October 30, 2020I'm not normally the type of person that writes bad reviews, but I'm going to make an exception today. I have lived at Union for 2 years, and I do want to be clear that this is a beautiful property in a great location. But unfortunately it was recently bought out by a large corporate company that has failed miserably at managing, cleaning, and maintaining the property. Cars have been getting broken into on a weekly basis. Free parking areas were turned into 2 hour parking forcing residents to pay ...for premium parking. Common areas are not being maintained. The new company fired both of the concierge and baristas, and discontinued both services. The gym is missing half the weights. It's really a shame, hope they turn it around after I leave.Property Manager Responded

Frustrating
July 13, 2020New leasing office/management doesn't care. They don't reply to maintenance requests and have no urgency to do anything. The building has gone to crap. There is dog hair everywhere. There is never cleaning wipes in the gym or paper towels in the public bathroom. Rarely do they have coffee available at the barista station. Just sit outside the leasing door and you can hear the complaints coming in.Review from Apartments.com
NO
November 12, 2019Just underwhelming all the way around. Apartment was nowhere near ready whenever I moved in and I was made to feel as if I was putting the office staff out whenever I would try to follow-up. Finally just gave up and hired someone myself to do it. Kind of crazy for a "luxury" apartment.Review from Apartments.com
Amazing
February 13, 2019This place is amazing! Love the area and love that they are a big dog community. Their amenities are great as well! Very centrally located.Review from Apartments.com
