"Keep Austin Weird" is more than just a slogan on a T-shirt. For folks from apartments in Austin, it's a way of life, and this weird city is the only place you would find a landmark such as "Jeremiah the Innocent". What is Jeremiah the Innocent you may ask? Those not quite in the know might simply brush it off as a bizarre piece of graffiti, but this strange little frog on the wall of Crave Thai Food Restaurant is so much more. He is a representation of Austin today, a testament to the odd ways of Austinites, and one of the most paramount of Austin landmarks, making an apartment near Jeremiah the Innocent a thrill for any Austinite. Jeremiah the Innocent stands on the corner of Guadalupe and 21st, and has stood there for many years. It's a simple drawing, consisting of a somewhat poorly drawn frog beneath the words "Hi, How Are You?" One from an Austin apartment may wonder why this simple painting may have come to be such a piece of Austin history, but sometimes there's just something that speaks to a person, and so has Jeremiah the Innocent spoken to so many in Austin apartments. The painting was made by musician and eccentric Daniel Johnston back in 1993, when the corner was home to a Sound Exchange, and though the location has changed hands over the years, the painting has remained intact, thanks to the efforts of a very vocal group of fans.
