Cedar Park Overview

Considered a major suburb of Austin and located a mere fifteen miles from the Texas state capitol, apartments in Cedar Park are an ever-popular commodity. Offering easy access to a wealth of amenities while balancing big city convenience with down-home Texas charm, this on-the-rise destination has proven itself a hit with both blue collar families and young professionals alike.

What is the history of Cedar Park?

A stop on the Austin / Northwest Railroad as early as 1882, Cedar Park took its name a mere decade later. The 1950s saw a spring of subdivisions and families sprout in the area, with the city officially incorporating in 1972. A city library and other updates soon were implemented, with Cedar Park experiencing steady growth well into the 2000s. Today, many major retailers call the city home, and the US Census recently dubbed Cedar Park the fourth fastest-growing city in the nation.

How is the weather in Cedar Park?

This being Texas, residents of Cedar Park can expect lengthy and hot summers, although humidity tends to be light. Winters are generally mild and pleasant, with snow rare, although temperatures can occasionally dip below the freezing point. Spring often brings the rain, and storms can be a common occurrence during the March - June months.

How do I get around town?

A commuter train rail line runs from Cedar Park to the downtown Austin center, although the hours are limited and focused upon the 9-5 workforce demographic. Bus service is largely national in scope, including Greyhound, and taxis are found with relative ease. A majority of Cedar Park apartment residents claim personal automobile ownership as a primary source of transportation.

What is the Cedar Park commute like?

Traveling around Cedar Park proper is fairly easy with 1431 and 183 running right down the middle. The city provides easy routes to surrounding cities like Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander, Pflugerville and, of course, Austin. Since many Cedar Park residents commute to the nearby job market of Austin, traffic remains a constant concern. I-35 and Highway 183 offer the primary travel options for commuters, and recent toll road openings offer an alternative to the consistent sluggish traffic leading in and out of Austin. The MOPAC expressway and it's 'fast lanes', ease some congestion on the notoriously slow-going roadway. Still, those driving during the peak morning and afternoon hours can expect heavy traffic delays on most weekdays.

What are the local media outlets?

While Cedar Park does have a few homegrown print offerings, a majority of the populace gets its news from Austin sources such as the weekly 'Chronicle' and the 'Austin American Statesman'. Radio such as 101X and KUTX cater to the rock-n-roll demographic, although KISS-FM and a variety of country-western formats can also be found with relative ease.

Why live in Cedar Park, TX?

Offering plenty of nationally-known chain stores as well as a bounty of independent shops and eateries, this charming Texas city has become a desirable hot spot with good reason. Close to the hub of Austin yet equally near to the tree-laden hill country area of central Texas, Cedar Park is a fantastic place to raise a family or simply hang your hat.

What Cedar Park landmarks should I see?

The Cedar Park Center is a must-see arena, where you can cheer on the Stars hockey team or take in a performance by rock bands such as Alice Cooper or Motley Crue. The heritage oak tree is a massive local landmark that dates back over four hundred years, and can be easily spotted by an abundance of lights that adorn it every holiday season.

What is there to do around Cedar Park?

Not only can locals catch a professional sports game or a concert at the Cedar Park Center, but the area offers a lot of fantastic outdoor adventure too. Fishing and hiking remain popular outdoor activities for Cedar Park dwellers, and a number of lakes, parks and the nearby hill country offering plenty of options for both. The area is also fit with plenty of retail options in heavily utilized shopping districts like 1890 Ranch, The Railyard and Lakeline Mall. For residents who love the night life, Cedar Park has plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants to enjoy - even a few micro-breweries too. Head to nearby Austin for some world-famous live music at venues such as the Mohawk or Emo's, or feast down on some local BBQ as only a Texan knows how to smoke. The Austin Aquarium is about ten minutes from downtown Cedar Park, and a number of stores such as Half Priced Books make occupying a rainy afternoon a breeze.

Any annual festivals or Cedar Park events to know?

The nearby SXSW Festival is a huge one, drawing thousands of music fans and industry insiders to Austin and surrounding areas. A number of crafts and food festivals also call the area home, with ice cream, hot sauce and reggae all equally represented on the local festival tip.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

While access to Lake Travis is minutes from Cedar Park, Lake Granbury is a mere 90 minutes or so from Cedar Park , offering swimming, boating and other water activities for the whole family. Dallas and San Antonio are also worthy weekend getaways, complete with shopping and dining, and Big Bend State Park makes for an awe-inspiring escape filled with scenic beauty.

Where is the best place to move in Cedar Park?

Cedar Park is flush with rentals that are sure to meet just about every income and lifestyle, with a majority of commuters living close to the 183 on and off ramps near 1431/Whitestone or Lakeline. Others choose to live a further West out 1431 toward Lake Travis or North closer to Leander. The Cedar Park Town Center neighborhood beats like a heart in the north center of the city and offers a convenient location with easy access to all major thoroughfares, major shopping and entertainment. Wherever you end up, one thing is for certain - Cedar Park is Texas living at its best! Austin living - just outside of Austin.
