Austin is such an exciting city to have an apartment in for many reasons, but one of the most interesting is that it's a city rich in history. Scholz Garten is a testament to this history, the oldest bar in town by far, dating back to the 19th century, and has survived through two world wars, numerous presidential changes, and the hardest thing of all for a bar, prohibition, and still came out on top. Though it's gone through many personnel changes over the year, Sholz Garten stills stays true to its old German heritage, providing the best in German brews with plenty of schnitzel to go around. Scholz Garten has been, from it early days, a top spot to go grab a cold drink, and it keeps up with that traditio to this day. One glance at the beer menu, and you'll know why this place has been famous for so long. While they serve a variety of domestics on draft, you might want to challenge yourself to try something different this time. Scholz Garten is the best place to get the best in German beer, from Franziskaner Hefe-Weizen German Wheat, Spaten Optimator, and numerous other premiums by 20 oz. bottle or pitcher, or Schneider Weisse German Wheat and Aventinus Bavarian Wheat-Doppelbock by the pint. If you're not in the mood for the flavors of Germany, that's alright, you also try any number of Irish, English, Belgian or American beers by bottle, pint or pitcher. It's not just about the beer at Scholz Garten. There's also an extensive menu of both German-inspired dishes and American favorites. For a little taste of Germany, you can try their Jagerschnitzel, Scholzschnitzel, or Wienerschnitzel, with side a sour kraut and red cabbage, or a nice poboy made with schnitzel or bratwurst. Of course, they have plenty of American favorites as well, such as burgers, hot wings, grilled pork chops and chicken friend steak for those not yet ready for a culinary trip to Europe. Part of Austin history for over a hundred years, Scholz Garten has always brought the best in beer and the best in German cuisine together to form a great experience. For apartment residents in Austin looking for a good meal, while also learning a bit about Austin's history, this place is a must.
