The ambiance of a hotel bar carries a different feel than a bar you walk in off the street, and the Oak Bar in the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel definitely has this classy, subdued feel you may be looking for in an adventure out of your Boston Apartment. Maybe it's because we know people are sleeping around us (even though they could never hear us) that we keep down our raucous voices and laughter. In 2008, the Oak Bar was named the "Best Hotel Bar" in Boston by readers of Boston Magazine. Recently refurbished, it still has the old world feel of a British Officer's club, with rich woods, tapestries and draperies. From the smooth marble bar to the 30 foot coffered ceilings, the cush atmosphere is a great destination for a relaxing event. It's an excellent location to bring a date, pre- or post-downtown partying, or maybe to have a drink before a meal at the Oak Room, an award-winning steak house just next door, also associated with the Fairmont. Open until midnight during the week, it's a great location to close a business deal too. The drink menu features one of Boston's largest martini selections, along with fashionable champagne cocktails that are priced in the $10+ range, with beer and wine typically cheaper. You can grab a sandwich, appetizer or dessert along with your drink. An extensive raw bar and signature chocolate cakes are also available. Friday's and Saturday's the Oak Bar is open until 1 am. Their mild dress code is business casual, so don't just show up from your apartment pool in flip flops and a tank top. It's a great place to go to feel like a diplomat, even if you're not.
