Trying to decide where to get out on the town this weekend? Well, wonder no more, if your Boston apartment is near the Allston area, and even if it is not, the Wonder Bar is the place to go. With a rockin' DJ or band upstairs featuring an excellent sound system, and a more lounge type, quieter bar downstairs, tasty finger foods and awesome cocktails, it has something for everyone. Typically populated with a young professional and student crowd, Wonder Bar has a great "feel" to it, maybe because of its history. Formerly "Bunratty's," this was the playing field for such music greats of Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, Frank Zappa, and even groovy Frank Sinatra in the 60's. In the 80's it was hailed as more of a biker bar as "Local 186" with darts and pool tables. Wonder Bar was introduced in the 90's, with a more classy, sophisticated atmosphere that exists today. You'll want to show up before 11 to avoid waiting in line to bounce around on a smallish dance floor to anything from hip hop to top 40's remixes. You can even get into a dark, comfortable booth to order if you don't want to hang at the bar. A perfect date night to people watch. Bartenders dressed in black will serve you up with fancy drinks, and if you're hungry, before or after dancing around a bit, the open concept kitchen allows you to watch your item being prepared (if you're close enough to see it). Menu items include incredible nachos, veggie and meat wraps and several quesadilla choices. During the week or on the weekend, to party, Wonder no more ...
