Longtime Orlando apartment-ites know that for the best Cuban food in the Orlando area, family-owned Rolando's Cuban Restaurant is a must. The restaurant has been open since 1988, with ownership changing over to Rolando's chef Faufto Rodriguez, his wife, Maria, and their family in 1999. The family is an integral part of the restaurant, with their children and grandchildren known by frequent guests. The atmosphere is simple, and gives Orlando apartment dwellers the feel of dining in a Cuban family's home. But don't let the décor distract, the food is quite possibly the best Cuban food in East Orlando. Craving some authentic Paella Valenciana? Be prepared to call ahead or wait, as it requires one hour preparation and is cooked only for two or more guests. Can't wait? The bistec milanesa is a fried, breaded steak topped with swiss, ham, pimentos, and tomato sauce and is sure to please. Don't forget to order a carafe of Sangria to compliment your meal. The special house recipe includes a blend of red wine, fruit juices, peach brandy, and just the right amount of fruit. Looking for the best Sandwich Cubano? Although there are a variety of sandwiches, try the traditional Cubano with a side of mariquitas (plantain chips). Make the drive to Rolando's and you'll be headed back to your apartment with a satisfied tummy, humming the authentic Cuban tunes from the man singing and playing the organ.
