Ever since you popped in that age-old DVD copy of the fantasy myth classic 'Clash of the Titans' last week, you've had a serious hankering for some food of the gods. Simmering spices, delectable olives, seasoned chunks of lamb...essentially the type of Mediterranean fare that Zeus himself would be proud to feast upon. Fear not, young Perseus, as Chicago's own Greek Islands offers some of the best traditional cuisine this side of Athens. The royal treatment is obvious from the moment you arrive, as these Islands provide complimentary valet parking for guests. The floorspace itself sings of all things Greek from the moment one sets foot inside - four spacious dining rooms await, accented by inspired architectural décor complete with pillars, ghost-pale stucco walls and ornate stone flooring. The staff is fittingly energetic and colorful, welcoming one and all like long-lost family. The food itself more than lives up to the mythical hype. No, those aren't torches of an invading horde to your right, simply one of a number of flaming cheese appetizers. Similarly, the Taramasalata...comprised of lemon zest, generous helpings of fish roe and a loaf of French bread large enough to battle Medusa with...is a 'must try' for any first time visitor. The entrees cover just about anything that walks or swims (the pork dishes are especially delectable), although herbivores can feast upon the perfection that is the house veggie Mousaka. Good luck leaving room for dessert given the giant portions, but we encourage you try anyway. Combining stellar service and rave-worthy cuisine, the only thing these Greek Islands are missing is unnecessary the drama.
