Explore Colorado Springs
Living in a Colorado Springs apartment is excellent because you have the great outdoors to explore just minutes away on a daily basis. Palmer Park is located right in the middle of the city, with over 700 acres of hiking, biking, picnicking and rock climing adventure. Donated to the City of Colorado Springs in the early 1900's by General William Palmer, the park is run by the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services, and managed quite well. The mountain biking trails have been heralded not only for the excellent variation of trail disciplines, but also for their accessibility to the city. Many riders must travel great distances to afford the excellent rides ranging from easy maintenance roads to spidery, twisting single tracks. The trails are well marked, and with 25 miles of them, you can practically ride all day without feeling like you're visiting the same trail twice. For the dedicated hiker, again, you can spend quite a bit of time here, possibly to get an excellent view of downtown Colorado Springs or the renowned Pike's Peak. The elevation at the highest point is at 6500 feet, with incredible vegetation observance of many types of cacti that often bloom in the summer for colorful vistas. Trails range in length from an easy 2.3 miles to a bit more challenging 4.7 miles. Originally opened as a horse training area, equestrian riders are welcome at Palmer Park. The super trails, through shady trees and rocks to wide open spaces allow space to walk or run with your horse, and horse stables are available as well. Other four-legged animals that are welcome in the park are dogs, as Palmer Park is one of the few parks where you can run and play with your dog who is probably more than willing to take a trip from the Colorado Springs apartment. There's even a specific park for dogs. In addition to the above recreation, the park also features two baseball/softball fields, a community playground, a football/soccer field, public restrooms, a scenic overlook and drive, Seven Castles - a geological point of interest, and three volleyball courts, there's plenty for a Colorado Springs apartment-ite to get excited about! .
