Many times when apartment-ites are out on a night on the town, one thing they forget is the wonderful theater that always fills the streets of Denver. Denver has numerous theater companies around town, but one of the most daring and creative is the Curious Theater Company, an underground theater troupe that is one of Denver's best kept secret. Attacking the issues, while performing old favorites and shocking new works, Curious Theater is sure to shock and amaze any who come to a showing. The main point of the Curious Theater Company is to awaken the community at large to the important issues in the world today, and they do this is the best way they know how: by writing, directing, producing and acting in some of the freshest plays created in the Colorado drama scene. Be warned that this is not your everyday theater, and those whose knowledge of theater does not venture must outside of Shakespeare and the Greeks will be in for a shock. This is as far from traditional theater, with themes and content many might find offensive or shocking. For those who come in with an open mind, however, it can be a very enjoyable and enlightening experience. The theater is built on the site of an old church, the same church said to be frequented by Mamie Eisenhower. In fact, the reception room is still named in her honor. Though the theater may not get as much attention as some in the city, it is still a large space, with an auditorium split between an orchestra level and a opera-like balcony. Its stage is large, and contains an entire grid, for those more extensive lighting, sound and scenery set ups. This makes it the perfect space for setting up any number of interesting and unique plays. Though many may herald some of the bigger companies as the best in town, its sometimes the smaller companies that put on the best shows. Apartment-ites up for a night of provocative theater in Denver can do little better than the Curious Theater Company, where you can enjoy a fantastic show in one of Denver's many historic locations.
